Hands and Feet of Jesus

"And Jesus came and spoke to them saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

Matthew 28:18-20

It's the heart of our church to put our faith into action by meeting the needs of the people in our community and around the world. Rather than simply tell people about the life-changing love of Jesus, we want to show them by the way we serve them. Our faith inspires our work and it's our prayer that our work would lay the foundations for new relationships, life-changing conversations, and ultimately, salvation in Christ for those in our community and around the world.

  • Ruthie howard

Raised in the small community of Clatskanie, Oregon, Ruthie Howard gained a greater glimpse of the wider world and God's amazing work in its farthest corners on an initial trip to Uganda, East Africa in 2006-07. Receiving God's call to return, she joined missions agency Global Outreach International in 2009 and set foot back in Uganda in January 2010 for full-time ministry.

Ruthie is blessed to be on a a multi-national team that comprises Shepherd's Heart International Ministry (SHIM), serving among the 52 inhabited islands of the Buvuma group on Lake Victoria in central Uganda. Her passions are discipleship, teaching, working with students, and writing, and she finds great joy in weaving them into the island ministry.

As coordinator for SHIM's Child Development program, Ruthie connects sponsors to disadvantaged island children, so they can glimpse a brighter future through education and holistic development. She also teaches computer and Bible classes at an island school, Lingira Living Hope Secondary School, serves in the local churches, and assists SHIM in communications, hospitality, and other administrative tasks.

God is transforming the islands one heart and individual at a time and Ruthie feels privileged to play a small part in the BIG work God is doing in Uganda. She is so grateful for the love, support, and encouragement of her Bridge Church family over the years, and is honored to be an extension of The Bridge into the heart of Africa.
